"After a rather dull economic atmosphere lasted for almost the whole of 2023, the Hong Kong economy is gradually coming out of the gloom. Mergers & acquisitions, capital markets and private wealth management are becoming more active in our firm’s practice. One reason is both the Mainland China and Hong Kong governments are taking active measures to boost the economy, thus giving more confidence to the public and investors. The other reason might be that people are getting more used to, and therefore more equipped to manage, the risks arising from geopolitical factors and high interest rates."

"Clients recently give more priority on management of different risks including those involving counterparty’s credibility, exchange rate fluctuations, foreign government sanctions, fluctuations in value of the investment targets. Investors are more inclined to ask for more protections such as collateral, profit guarantees, put options, demonstrating that they have a smaller appetite to take commercial risks."
